The Heavy-Duty Parts Report Explores the Diesel Decoder

Roadwarrior and Diesel Laptops’ collaborative project the Diesel Decoder was recently featured on The Heavy-Duty Parts Report! HDPR’s host Jamie Irvine interviewed the Senior Vice President of Diesel Laptops and the Sales Director of Roadwarrior about the Diesel Decoder and how it could benefit the average truck driver. The interview took place at the annual meeting of the Technology and Maintenance Council in Florida, during the trade show Electrifying Performance in Maintenance Management.

What is The Heavy-Duty Parts Report?

HDPR is a weekly podcast, run by heavy-duty vehicle experts and designed specifically for the commercial trucking industry. The host interviews expert guests about HD truck parts, tools and tech! You can watch the video here or find the podcast version and a full interview transcript on the HDPR site!

What Does the Interview Cover?

The interview explores the collaboration between diagnostic-expert Diesel Laptops and aftertreatment-manufacturer Roadwarrior. The two companies combined their resources and expertise to produce the pocket-sized diagnostic tool the Diesel Decoder. In the interview, HDPR’s host Jamie Irvine chats to Diesel Laptops’ Senior V.P. Andy Turnbull and Roadwarrior’s Sales Director Dave Jerman. The three men discuss the benefits of combining manufacturing and troubleshooting expertise to help the trucking community make smart repair decisions and increase uptime. Andy Turnbull also explains some key differences between diagnostic tools and the kind of user they’re most suitable for. He explains how the right tool can help technicians boost their efficiency and drivers take ownership in the case of a truck malfunction.

The Heavy-Duty Parts Report podcast covers a wide range of topics related to the trucking industry. These are some of our favourite recent episodes:

What Do You Need to Know About Diesel Laptops?

Diesel Laptops specialize in diagnostic and troubleshooting tools, technician training and repair advice for heavy-duty diesel equipment, including trucks. Their introduction of parts look-up interfaces and DIY diagnostic tools revolutionized the diesel industry by giving individual drivers and fleet managers the power to make informed repair decisions!

Head to the Diesel Laptops website to find out more about who they are and what they do!

What is the Diesel Decoder?

The Diesel Decoder is a pocket-sized diagnostic scan tool for heavy-duty trucks. It reads truck performance data and scans fault codes, including OEM-specific and permanent codes. The Diesel decoder is a mid-range tool; this means it’s better suited to drivers, owner-operators, and small-fleet managers than large-scale professional mechanics. Diesel Laptops and Roadwarrior created it as a joint project, combining diagnostic and engineering expertise. The team designed it to be user-friendly and easy to use—you just plug it into your truck’s connector port, then link it to the free Diesel Decoder app on your phone via Bluetooth. The package includes an adaptor that enables it to work with a 9-pin or standard OBD2 connector port. This means it’s compatible with all North America’s major HD truck manufacturers, including Freightliner, Mack, Volvo, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Western Star and International. You can find out more about the Diesel Decoder on the Roadwarrior website!

Better Coating, Better Performance.

Roadwarrior is the only manufacturer to use Metalcor® catalyst technology across its entire range of Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOCs) and Selective Catalytic Reduction catalysts (SCRs). Metalcor® catalysts feature high activity catalyst coatings fused to thinner, stronger, catalyst substrates to guarantee maximum performance under the harshest conditions.

Metalcor® catalyst coatings are designed and produced in our own labs. We then inspect each unit to ensure you get more fuel efficiency, lower consumption of DEF, and long term performance from your heavy duty engine!

Roadwarrior Has You Covered!

All Roadwarrior emissions parts carry a full value 12 month warranty.

LightningVolt lithium batteries carry a full value 30 month warranty.

To make the process hassle-free, our parts have a metal nameplate with the serial number, so even after 500,000 miles of service, it’s still easy to identify. This avoids the common problem of serial numbers printed on stickers that burn off after the first start-up, making them impossible to return. Our failsafe system allows us to work in your interests, honouring claims for on-road and off-road replacements, and giving you peace of mind.

And since Roadwarrior parts are designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications, you can rest easy knowing our direct fit parts will take the problems out of your aftertreatment without interfering with your OEM warranty.

Next Day Is Nice, Same Day is Better!

A faulty emissions control system can cost you thousands in wasted man-hours as your heavy equipment sits in the shop awaiting a new part. Whether it’s a truck behind on orders, a bus that can’t take passengers, or heavy machinery delaying construction deadlines, Roadwarrior can get you moving again!

Roadwarrior has twelve warehouses across the U.S.A. and Canada, which can deliver the most popular aftertreatment parts in 1-2 days. With over 1,000 DPFs, DOCs and SCRs on offer, Roadwarrior offers the largest aftertreatment catalogue.

*LightningVolt lithium batteries ship directly from Roadwarrior in Ontario, to ALL 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii within 2-4 days.
