What type of charger should I use?+

A charger with a Lithium (LFP/LiFePO4) specific setting is best. However any charger that produces a maximum voltage of between 13.6V and 14.4V will work. Do not use equalize or repair charge modes designed for lead acid batteries.

Can I charge with my alternator?+

A. Yes, provided the alternator output matches the required charge conditions. If the charge voltage exceeds 15V the battery will switch to protection mode and not accept a charge – which could damage an alternator unless another battery remains connected.

Can I combine LightningVolt™ with other batteries?+

A. Yes. A battery isolation device such as a relay, DC to DC charger, or isolator is recommended when mixing with lead acid or AGM batteries. Many trucks, RVs, and boats already contain an isolation device to separate the house and starting battery banks. Direct connection is possible if the battery banks are of similar capacity and all batteries are in good condition. LightningVolt™ batteries will maintain a float charge on lead acid batteries which will extend the life of the lead acid battery but will discharge the LightningVolt™ batteries over time. Do not connect batteries to each other when voltage difference is >0.2V.

Can LightningVolt™ charge below freezing?+

A. Yes, LightningVolt™ batteries are designed to work in any condition and can be charged as low as -20°C (-4°F). Below freezing, the rate of charge will decrease to protect the battery. LightningVolt™ batteries will self-heat when discharged at a moderate load for 15 to 30 minutes, this allows the battery to charge at it’s usual rate.

Can I use my LightningVolt™ below freezing?+

A. Yes, LightningVolt™ batteries are designed to work in almost any condition! Compared to traditional batteries it even maintains much more power as the temperature drops below freezing.

How should I store my LightningVolt™ battery?+

A. No special conditions are required! The very low self discharge rate means you can leave the battery for up to 6 months between use. No float or trickle charger is required.

How can I maximize the life of my battery?+

A. Just use it very hard! LightningVolt™ batteries are designed to work as hard as you do. Deep discharge, fast recharge, and frequent cycling are all perfectly fine for your LightningVolt™ batteries.

My battery is in protection mode. How can I reset it?+

A. Simply disconnect both battery terminals for 3 seconds and the battery will reset.

I am measuring zero voltage across the battery terminals, is my battery dead?+

A. It’s likely your battery has gone into protection mode. Simply disconnect both battery terminals for 3 seconds and the battery will reset.

Can LightningVolt™ be used to start my engine?.+

A. We do not recommend LightningVolt™ as a replacement starter battery or for jump-start applications on combustion engines. LightningVolt™ batteries are designed for long term storage and deep discharge. Engine starting is the one application when traditional lead acid batteries really excel.

Can I use LightningVolt™ batteries in series to get higher voltage?+

A. Yes, a maximum of 4 batteries may be connected in series to achieve a 48V system.

Can I use LightningVolt™ batteries in parallel to get more capacity?+

A. Yes LightningVolt™ batteries can be connected in parallel to provide even more capacity!
